Mr. Maier is a Director and senior
member of Houlihan Lokey’s Financial Advisory Services business,
where he co-leads the firm’s Real Estate Valuation and Advisory Services
practice (REVS). He has more than 15 years of experience providing valuation
advisory services specializing in real estate entities, property portfolios,
and complex single-asset property developments. Mr. Maier has completed
numerous assignments of large portfolios for multi-national and global
engagements, having worked throughout North America, Europe, Australia, and
Asia. He is based in the firm’s Chicago office.
Mr. Maier has vast experience in
analysis and valuation across many property types, with significant experience
in hospitality & leisure, gaming, retail, senior housing, and office
properties. He recently completed a valuation of more than 200 assisted living
properties on a $450 million transaction for a private equity group; a
valuation of a $3.5 billion REIT acquisition of an office portfolio for
financial reporting purposes; a valuation of a portfolio of more than 400
neighborhood retail centers for underwriting a proposed leverage buyout with
real estate worth over $2.0 billion; a valuation for a big-box specialty
retailer with a total value of nearly $3.0 billion for financial reporting
purposes; and a purchase price allocation of a $2.0 billion gaming property
development, among others. Mr. Maier’s experience also includes several
assignments in the retail and dining space, having completed valuations with
portfolios of properties exceeding 1,000 properties.
Before joining Houlihan Lokey in 2005, Mr. Maier held various
positions with other valuation firms, providing valuations related to real and
personal property. Mr. Maier began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP.
Mr. Maier holds a B.A. in
Mathematics with a minor in Economics from DePauw University. He holds the MAI
designation from the Appraisal Institute and is an Accredited Senior Appraiser
(ASA) of the American Society of Appraisers,
a professional member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS),
and a member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts® (NAREIT®).
Mr. Maier is also licensed as a state-certified general real estate appraiser
in several states.
