Based in Hong Kong, Mr. Putnam is a Managing Director and Head of Asia-Pacific for Houlihan Lokey.
Before joining Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Putnam worked at Citigroup Investment Banking in Hong Kong for 10 years. He has completed complex restructuring assignments in a range of markets including transactions in China, Indonesia and the US. Most notably, he led the execution of China Netcom’s acquisition of the Asia businesses of Global Crossing in 2002, the first ever outbound acquisition of a regional business by a Chinese state-owned enterprise and the first ever to involve a US Chapter 11 process. In Indonesia he has advised PT Telkom on the unwinding of their cross-shareholdings with Indosat as well as the restructuring of a number of their domestic KSO operations. He has also advised MNCs on the restructuring of JVs as well as working with Asian companies on distressed acquisitions outside the region. During his time in Asia he has executed either restructuring, M&A or other advisory assignments for MNC and Asian clients in most Asian markets including global giants such as Petrochina and AT&T.
Mr. Putnam graduated from London University with a degree in Chinese and economics, and prior to becoming an investment banker worked for the British Foreign Office in the UK and China. He speaks, reads and writes Mandarin Chinese and speaks some Cantonese and Bahasa Indonesia.
