Mr. Schwartzman is a Director in Houlihan Lokey’s Transaction Advisory Services practice and Head of M&A Tax Services. He is a transactional attorney with a broad range of domestic, foreign, and cross-border tax due diligence and tax structuring experience for both private equity and corporate clients. Mr. Schwartzman has also served as an expert witness in litigation and arbitration matters. He is based in the firm’s New York office.

Before joining Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Schwartzman initiated and led the M&A Tax Services group at Duff & Phelps, and initiated and co-led the in-house tax group for corporate finance/restructuring at FTI Consulting. Mr. Schwartzman started his career as an attorney in the Office of the Chief Counsel of the IRS. 

Mr. Schwartzman has been a frequent speaker on tax topics and has authored/co-authored numerous pieces on tax issues, including a chapter on bankruptcy/restructuring tax issues in a restructuring treatise, and notable articles such as “What You Need to Know about Inversions,” CFO Magazine (February 19, 2016) (with Steven Tishman) and “The Art of the Graceful Exit,” The Deal (May 27, 2015) (with Andrew Deren and Winston Shows).

Mr. Schwartzman has led M&A tax teams on numerous acquisitions and divestitures for clients such as Vivendi, The Jordan Company, TPG, Kenner & Co., General Electric, Olympus, Moody’s, Dun & Bradstreet, Windjammer, and Carlyle. His experience includes transactions in the industrials; healthcare; consumer, food & retail; technology, media & telecom; aerospace, defense & government; business services; and financial institutions industries.

Mr. Schwartzman earned a B.A. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and an LL.M. (Tax) from the New York University School of Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association.
