Mr. Guthrie is Managing Director at Houlihan Lokey and has over three decades of corporate advisory experience, most of which has been with independent advisory firms. He has focused on financial services for the past 20 years and is based in the firm's London office.

Mr. Guthrie was a Managing Director with Quayle Munro prior to its acquisition by Houlihan Lokey in 2018. He joined Quayle Munro in 2015 to establish its financial services practice. Prior to Quayle Munro, Mr. Guthrie co-founded the financial services practice at Hawkpoint (acquired by Canaccord) in the late 1990s, building it to a team of 20. He began his career at Charterhouse, where he worked for 12 years.

Mr. Guthrie has a wide range of advisory experience, including IPOs, buy-outs, private equity and debt raisings, public offers, independent valuations, and acquisitions and disposals, and has advised on more than 40 completed transactions with an aggregate value in excess of €7 billion since 2011.

His notable transactions prior to joining Houlihan Lokey include advising on the take-privates of Shawbrook Bank (for BC Partners and Pollen Street) and Domestic & General (as Rule 3 adviser) and the sales of BlueStep Bank (to EQT), Voogd & Voogd (to Five Arrows Principal Investments), Moneycorp (to Bridgepoint), Burdale (to Wells Fargo Bank), Cashzone ATMs (to Cardtronics), MCS (to Cerberus), Target Group (to Tech Mahindra), Marlin (to Cabot), Buy As You View (to Rutland), CapQuest (to TowerBrook), a £1 billion mortgage book owned by Bank of Ireland (to Nationwide), Mars Capital (to Arrow), TRM (to Notemachine), First Assist (to Cigna), Lowell (to TDR), Ocean Finance (to AIG), Singers Asset Finance (to Shawbrook Bank), Ultimo (to B2Holding), and Windsor (to Hyperion Insurance Group). Mr. Guthrie also advised on the IPOs of Secure Trust Bank, Davenham, H&T, and OneSavings Bank; the restructuring of Albemarle & Bond; the private capital raising for Aldermore Bank; the capital raise for Neyber, which was sourced from Wadhawan; and the purchases of Hampshire Trust Bank, GetBack (for Abris), Key Retirement Solutions, and, on behalf of Encore and JC Flowers, Cabot.

Mr. Guthrie graduated from St John’s College, Cambridge with an MA and studied Natural Sciences. In 2004 he was named BVCA Financial Adviser of the Year.
